Newsletter for March and April 2026

NEWS FROM COUNCIL

Livestreaming will commence at the March 15th service. The best way to access this will be to go to our YouTube channel, found at peace lutheran church leduc alberta. Locate the live tab and the service will be located there. We hope to launch each Sunday about 20 minutes prior to the start of service. The other way will be to access the link from our Facebook page. The link will be available about fifteen minutes prior to the start of service.

We will endeavour to keep the congregation off the live stream, but if you have any concerns, please let us know, especially if you are volunteering as a lector or are planning to come up to the mic to make announcements. There will be posters at the front entrances and at the doors to the sanctuary indicating that the service will be livestreamed.

We are looking for volunteers to help with this. It is too much for the sound/projection volunteer to do both operations, so we will require an additional person. Kevin Christenson will provide training. If you are able to assist, please let him, Oystein or Pastor Matt know.

Spring Craft and Cake

Please join us on Saturday, April 25th at 1 pm for a spring craft, followed by strawberry shortcake and tea. Tickets, priced at $20 each, will be on sale from March 22 through April 20 at the church office or from any Witness Committee member. Dreanne will lead us through a jar craft that can later be used as a vase, pencil holder, or decoration. All supplies will be provided and all are welcome!

Hope to see you there.

Spring Clean Up

The annual spring clean up will be held on Saturday, May 23rd. There are always lots of jobs to be done, and as they say, many hands make light work.

Please consider helping get the property cleaned up after winter.

Volunteer Appreciation Day

Volunteer Appreciation Day will be held on Sunday, April 26th and will be celebrated after the service with cake, snacks and beverages.

The church relies on volunteers for many aspects of day to day operations, help during the services, work on the property, fundraising, community awareness, child and youth activities and so many more things.

We appreciate you all!

Why do we Exist? Part 2

Recent events in Minneapolis have provided affirmation of Christian vocation in times of crisis. We are called to always be ready to stand up against unjust practices and to proclaim God’s love-- sometimes even at great personal risk.

January 23, clergy of multiple denominations gathered in Minneapolis to embody resistance to the presence of ICE officers. The Rt Rev. A. Robert Hirschfeld, Presbyterian Bishop of New Hampshire, advised his clergy to get their affairs in order and have their wills written. Why? Because when we stand up against malevolent forces in the world, things happen.

As we approach the season of Lent, we are reminded that faith calls for personal sacrifice. We willingly give of our finances, our abilities and our time. As Jesus did, we seek to live our lives not for our own sake, but for the benefit of all. When one has more than others, it is shared. When someone needs extra care, we give it. We tithe a portion, recognizing that all we have has been graciously provided by God. These practices are what make our neighbourhoods safer, more equitable and able to thrive as the gaps between us close.

In times like today we are not only asked but are truly being tested to trust in this biblical call. Strategies that undermine universal healthcare or education, politics that hoard resources for one province or country, policies that undermine people because they are different--these are not reflective of Jesus’ love for all.

Let’s enter into Lent intentionally this year. Let’s be mindful of the many who are suffering and in danger, those whose lives are complicated just because of the colour of their skin or where they were born. Let’s genuinely seek to learn about those who are different. Let’s be generous, active in justice, and let’s tell others about Jesus. Let’s go to church, rekindle fellowship, pray and sing! Bake cookies for the school in your neighbourhood. Turn off the tv and invite the neighbours for coffee. Use our imaginations and see where the Holy Spirit sparks a new thing!

In gratitude as we minister together,

Bishop Trish Schmermund
