MESSAGE FROM WITNESS AND SPECIAL SERVICES COMMITTEE

Beginning March 23rd, Fellowship has resumed after the church service. Volunteers are needed until June 22nd.  This requires making coffee, getting hot water ready for the tea, setting out cookies that are provided, setting up 2 or 3 tables, and then cleaning up and doing dishes. Please consider signing up. It doesn’t take too long to do and the more volunteers the better it turns out. If you are able to help, please let the office know.

We are always looking for help in different aspects of the church. From committees, to fellowship, to spring cleaning. We are planning a spring cleanup of the kitchen and yard. It will be held on May 24th (tentative date. A rainout date of May 31st). There is a sign-up sheet on the bulletin board.

Dorothy Gummer is looking for volunteers to help give the kitchen a deep clean. She is also on the look out for a few people to help with cleaning the kitchen on a monthly basis. You can contact her at 780-986-6012 if you’d like to help with cleaning.

We would like to take the time to thank all our volunteers.

Thank you to Michelle Kopperud, Ali Doherty and Anita Kuntz for your help with the Sunday School classes and getting the kids to join in on the services with singing among other things.

Thank you to the people who have helped out with Shrove Tuesday, Easter breakfast, fellowship refreshments and other special events.

A big shout out to the singers and musicians we are blessed to have in our congregation who have been participating in services.

Thank you to the members of the property committee for taking care of odds and ends in and around the building.

SAVE THE DATE!

Saturday, June 7th Piatta Forma will be holding their Spring Concert. There will be two performances. Tickets and information will be coming shortly.

Vintage Strawberry Tea And Fashion Show

The Witness Committee, with the help of many others put on a tea on April 26th. It was a sold-out event! There was a prize table, a tea-set display and Side Street Vintage had a table of wares to purchase and put on a fashion show. The ladies who modeled wore a collection of items including a leather vest over 100 years old, a vintage skirt, a decades old dress, beautiful clutches and modern clothing. A total profit of $1,504.49 was raised! Proceeds will go towards new tables for the Fellowship Hall.

The volunteers served huge slices of angel food cake with strawberries and whipped cream along with assorted teas. Thank you to everyone who donated their teacups, tea pots, cakes, strawberries and their time.

MESSAGE FROM BISHOP TRISH:

Easter 2025

 Alleluia! Christ is risen!

Christ is risen indeed! Alleluia!

Mt Pleasant Cemetery in Edmonton is one of my favorite places. It a beautiful old cemetery – as you can see with old trees standing in witness and as protective guards over the sleeping saints. I find it peaceful. A little pocket of quiet in a busy city.

We’ve heard once again the story of Jesus’ death. It’s heart wrenching every time I hear it. The good in us finds it unthinkable that humanity could stoop to such actions, but the worldly side of us knows it to be too true. And so we relive Good Friday in stories of our own of bullying, violence, shaming, swarming, anger, war, apathy, and more. The pain of the world is real and hits us hard, at times seemingly unrelenting, and we ask, God where are you? We feel the ache of emptiness.

Perhaps one of the gifts of Good Friday is that it gives us space to acknowledge such pain.

Acknowledgement leads us to seek change – who would want that our lives would stay the same? That we would relive tragedy after tragedy? The gospel, and in particular Jesus’ resurrection, reminds us of our goodness, of our potential to bring hope, love, and grace into one another’s lives. Death and violence never hold the last word! Life does!

When I was a seminary intern, my supervisor, Pr Marty Tuer, taught me that when the funeral procession arrives at the cemetery, the pastor is to begin reading passages of scripture out loud as the people move from their cars to the graveside. She said, “with death literally surrounding us, the words of scripture are tossed out like flower petals in the face of it all – death does not have the last word – Christ does! And Christ’s word to us is one of hope and abundant life.”

As spring takes hold, and life begins again in grasses, crops, livestock, bees, birds and buds – may we remember the whole story. May we cast aside our grief and old ways and allow the Son’s rays to soak into our bones once again, bringing resurrection right into our lives where we need it most. And may we, like the women, run to tell others – God is alive and on the loose!

Alleluia! Christ is risen!

Christ is risen indeed! Alleluia!

Bishop Trish
